  19. Subject: Sending/Receiving with Internal Fax/Modem on COM1 or COM2

  21. Situation:

  23. You cannot send or receive with an internal fax/modem configured for
  24. either COM1 or COM2.
  25.  
  26. Solution:
  27. =========
  28. Most computers sold come standard with two serial ports, a parallel
  29. port and a game port. All of these ports are located on a single
  30. option card installed in one of the slots of the computer. (Sometimes
  31. this option card also has the hard drive and floppy drive controller
  32. on it.) The two serial ports are typically configured as COM1 and
  33. COM2.
  34.  
  35. When the internal fax/modem is installed as either COM1 or COM2, a
  36. conflict can occur with the existing COM port on the option card (even
  37. if a device is not attached to it). Consequently, you must disable the
  38. existing COM1 or COM2 port on the option board to avoid a conflict.

  40. how to disable a COM port.
